A CLINICAL and well organised St Macartan’s claimed a remarkable nine in a row of Division One titles under the lights at Healy Park as Chloe McCaffrey led her side to a sixteen point win over Killeeshil.
McCaffrey hit 2-8 for the defending champions who claimed a record 13th Senior League crown in the process.
Once again this was a quality team performance from St Macartan’s, who used possession well, defending with tenacity and continually moving the ball at pace.
Despite a bright start Killeeshil just could not live with their opponents.
Captain Niamh McGirr alongside Maria Donnelly were impressive in defence, McGirr turning in another player of the match display. Maura Mc Menamin and Tara O’Hagan dominated midfield, while McCaffrey, Colleen McQuaid and Cathy Maguire were a constant threat up front.
The ‘Macs’ led by fourteen points at the break after the St Mary’s had nudged themselves into an eighth minute lead.
Grainne Rafferty dropped over an early Killeeshil point after pouncing on a weak clearance and even when Cadhla McCarroll turned in a St Macartan’s goal, Killeeshil were well in the contest, creating several opportunities with Orla Mulgrew among several players carrying the ball into opposition territory with real purpose.
