TYRONE minor manager Collie Holmes has said that the postponement of this year’s Ulster Minor Championship was a bitter pill to swallow – but one the coaching team had been ready for.
The Red Hands were due to travel to Ballybofey on Saturday morning to face Donegal in the provincial quarter-final, but the GAA announced yesterday that, following clarification, the minor and u-20 grades were not allowed to continue in the South under current Covid-19 restrictions.
“We could see this coming two or three weeks ago,” said Holmes.
“There was a meeting at Croke Park and some counties were for it and some were against it, and I suppose there was a sense that we were heading towards this.
“Just the way things worked out with isolation and injuries, there was a feeling it was coming. Things moved on the way they did on Monday in the South (moving to Level Five) and at training that night we said as a coaching team that we wouldn’t see the weekend.”
