SIGERSONS joint manager, James O’Reilly is confident his side will be ‘competitive’ during the 2021 Tyrone ACL Division Two season.
Having watched in frustration as around 12 senior players picked up injuries during their three pre-season challenge games, the former goalkeeper believes that those losses will present an opportunity for others in the Strabane squad and he feels the youngsters who will step in will grasp their chance with both hands.
“It’s probably impossible to set any targets at this stage,” observed O’Reilly, who looks after the team with Eamon McGowan.
“We’ve had a few challenge games but we’ve also landed ourselves with a nice number of injuries as well.
“It’s very unfortunate because it’s mainly the senior squad. We’re getting them back in dribs and drabs but my expectations are, it’s great to have great numbers out at training, particularly the younger lads, who are champing at the bit and are pushing on.
“They have been a breath of fresh air and it would be unfair to put an expectation on them because we have so many of them involved in the team. But they will be fit and eager and I’d be very confident that we will be competitive in every game.”
Sigersons open their campaign at home to Rock this evening in what looks to be a difficult schedule for the Strabane side.
