LAURENCE Strain is back in charge of Omagh St Enda’s for a second stint – and he recognises that the landscape has shifted since he led the team to the brink of Ulster Championship glory back in 2014.
Between retirements, injuries and emigration, Omagh’s starting team has changed fairly significantly since their dream run climaxed in a one-point defeat to Slaughtneil in the Ulster Club Final, but Strain points out that talented young players need to be given their chance to shine anyway.
“Things need to be changed up every year anyway to be honest. There’s nothing like youth – look at Dungannon in last year’s championship, and when Omagh made the breakthrough the team was full of lads in their early twenties.
“You need the balance obviously, but if things are just the same as in previous years, it won’t be any good. It may only be little changes but there has to be some level of change,” he added.
