STRABANE’S Tori Mc Laughlin is relishing taking the captain’s role in the Tyrone Ladies squad as she prepares to lead the Red Hands against Armagh this Sunday at Omagh in the opening round of the LIDL National League Division Two.
Tori, a daughter of former Tyrone Chairman Ciaran McLaughlin, had been vice captain in 2016 when Tyrone claimed a first Ulster Intermediate title. It has been a long journey back to senior football for Tyrone but after two years now, 2021 will be a big year for the county.
Acknowledging that fact, Tori is upbeat about what lies in stote in the coming weeks and months.
“ I am confident that in everything we do collectively, we will do with pride, knowing we are representing Tyrone Ladies, although it is important to be playing and competing with the best.”
The 27-year old admits that it will be a proud moment for herself, family and club to captain her county this Sunday. She also praised her predecessor as skipper Neamh Woods for the role she has played down through the years.
“I suppose it’s something you dream of when you start playing Gaelic Football as a child.
“But I will have big shoes to fill. Neamh has been an awesome leader but I am only one of many leaders on the pitch. We are very lucky within the panel, we have lots of leaders and a great mix of experience alongside new additions to the panel.”
