Tyrone avoid the big guns in All-Ireland group draw

Tyrone will face Ulster rivals Armagh and Connacht side Mayo in Group Four of the revamped TG4 All Ireland Ladies Senior Championship series which gets underway in October.

The winners of the group will progress to the last four with Gerry Moane’s side certainly well placed to reach those semi-finals, should they perform

The Red Hands beat Armagh in an early season National League tie at Silverbridge while in last year’s All Ireland group stages they just came up short at the hands of Mayo at Healy Park.

Moane was therefore happy with the draw which was held on Tuesday night at Croke Park.

“I think Ulster managers made it clear last week that we are unhappy with the seeding, the four semi-finalists from last year have been kept apart but from our own point of view we have avoided the Dublins and Corks.

“We have to feel we have a chance to progress. It’s going to be a strange season but we will do our best to prepare,” admitted the Tyrone boss.

Moane was among a handful of inter-county managers who called last week for the Ulster Championship to be maintained this season. And the  the Ulster Council have since confirmed that they would now consult with 
counties ahead of this week’s Provincial meeting. For now though the national competition will be the focus although managers and players remain concerned over preparation time.
