Andrew Dolan is quickly becoming one of the town’s most exciting musical prospects – and his new track, ‘All my Reasons’, is only adding to the hype that is swirling around the young man’s career.
Now, I am not too sure what the rest of you were doing when you were 16, but I would wager that your time was not being spent writing introspective love songs demonstrative of your musical and emotional maturity.
Were ye?
Didn’t think so.
Well that is exactly what Andrew is doing.
‘All my Reasons’ is the teenager’s first official release, and, in the vain of many singer songwriters before him, the preoccupation of his debut release is that of young love.
The track starts with some swelling synth sound that I cannot quite put my finger on. My more aurally-attuned colleague, however, reckons it is a keyboard.
Anyway, the mysterious waves quickly break under the pluck of one of Andrew’s guitar strings, and the song really gets underway.
“Late night drives, to see you smile,” teases the opening lyric, as Andrew begins depicting scenes synonymous with young Irish love.
Drives around coastal roads. Spins through rural hills… It reminds me of that old adage, the creation of which was actually concurrent with the advent of the automobile itself: The young heart knows not the price of diesel.
But, on a more serious note, Andrew’s sincerity bleeds through the whole song.
Baring his soul and exposing his feelings, Andrew displays a courage uncommon, not only among people his age, but among people, period.
Speaking directly to his sweetheart (whether she is a universal abstract or an actual young cuddy remains unclear), Andrew tells how his home is always with her.
In other words, as long as he is beside her, he will be content.
The tune is full of romantic optimism, idyllic, yes, but not naive.
I could quote more lines, but I am cautious that I am already teetering on the cusp of spilling all the beans.
And if I know Andrew (which I don’t), he would hate his beans to be spilt.
So, readers, you may content yourself with the couple of lines you got and just download the song tomorrow.
It takes a few clicks – and the richness within is worth far more than that.
Now, get your thumbs out of your belt loops, and get on your preferred streaming platform and let the downloading begin.
I have the feeling this could be the start of something promising.
Oh aye, and if you have not heard Andrew’s song about Omagh CBS’ Hogan Cup win, look on his Facebook page: ‘Andrew Dolan Music’.
