A NEW sculpture is to be erected in Cookstown to celebrate the town’s industrial heritage.
Planning permission has been granted for the sewing machine sculpture to be erected at Burnvale Crescent close to the town centre.
The new estate, which was built around ten years ago, is on the site of a former clothing factory.
The new sculpture, which will be used as a street marker for Burnvale Crescent, will mark the link to the area’s past.
The proposal for the artwork, which will be 1.7m high and two metres in length, was put forward by Radius Housing, which built Burnvale Crescent.
The estate, which has a total of 58 houses, was designated as one of ten social housing ‘shared neighbourhoods’ under the First and Deputy First Minister’s Together: Building a United Community (TBUC) strategy.
