A 58-year-old man is due before Omagh Magistrates Court today after being extradited from the Republic in relation to terrorist charges.
The PSNI said he was arrested in December 2021 but that the extradition proceedings were only completed today.
He is due to be charged with offences of belonging to a proscribed organisation, directing terrorism, conspiracy to direct terrorism and preparation of acts of terrorism as part of Operation Arbacia, an investigation into the activities of the New IRA.
The alleged offences occurred in the Omagh area in July 2020.
He is due to appear at the local court later today.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Today’s extradition demonstrates our continued and effective working with partners to track down wanted persons and bring offenders to justice.
“The Police Service of Northern Ireland continues to work closely with authorities in the Republic of Ireland to locate and return those wanted to stand trial in Northern Ireland.
“In this particular case, we worked closely with the PSNI’s Terrorism Investigation Unit and An Garda Síochána to locate this man and bring him before the courts. PSNI will relentlessly pursue those sought to stand trial in this jurisdiction.”
