Tattyreagh 3-13 Urney 3-17
URNEY produced a strong showing as they secured a four point victory at Tattyreagh on Wednesday night in ACL Division 3B.
Backboned by a resilient defence, some fine fielding and clinical finishing, underlined by 2-5 from Jamie McAleer, the visitors were good value for the win.
While the Tatts were off the boil for the most part they came storming back from eight points down in the closing quarter to within a goal but Urney held them off.
Two first half goals from Kyle Henry and McAleer ensured a three point lead for the Columba’s at the break with the runs of Ryan Henry, Mc Aleer and Daniel Doherty causing the Tatts defence all sorts of problems.
Early points from Keelan McDonagh and the lively Ronan Collins for Tattyreagh were cancelled out when Henry burst through from the right for a crisp goal. Niall Murray was denied a goal at the other end by a good Conor Lafferty save before his opposite number Colin Mimnagh levelled things with a “45”.
An exchange of points between Ryan Henry and Collins followed before Sean McGowan carved open the home defence to tee up McAleer for a second goal.
Urney pulled away after that with three well executed points from the bustling Conor McDaid, McAleer and Ryan Henry leaving it a six point game with five minutes of the half left. Peadar Mullan’s last involvement in the tie before he got injured was a key two pointer that afforded the Tatts a lifeline.
They finished the half well with points from Stephen Gervin, McDonagh and Cathal Darcy, but Henry kept three between the sides at the interval.
An early second half penalty goal from McAleer after he was upended put Urney six clear. McDaid, McAleer and Kyle Henry crafted further points to widen that advantage. The response from Tattyreagh though was swift with McDonagh’s ‘Garryowen’ dropping to Ger McElholme who finished to the net.
A well executed two pointer from Anthony Crossan and a McDonagh free left seven the deficit at the start of the final quarter. McDonagh then arrowed over a free and converted a penalty only for McAleer to halt the potential comeback with his own double score.
The Tatts were always chasing and Murray brought the best out of Lafferty again as McDonagh finished with a brace of points before he laid off to substitute Joe Cartin who crashed in a third goal for the homeside in injury time, sandwiched between Ryan Henry’s third point of the night.
