Man killed in tragic incident at Omagh school is named

A MAN has died following what is understood to have been a tragic workplace incident at a school on the outskirts of Omagh this morning.

The deceased has been named as Paul Corrigan.

Mr Corrigan, who is believed to have been in his 50s, died while working at St Mary’s Primary School in the Old Mountfield Road area..

Emergency services including the PSNI, Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance attended the scene.

A spokesperson for the Education Authority (EA) said: “We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of one of our colleagues, Paul Corrigan, following a serious incident at St Mary’s Primary School in Killyclogher this morning (Thursday 3 July).

“Paul was a highly valued and dedicated member of our Facilities Management Service for over 30 years, working as a Building Supervisor and member of the Grounds Maintenance Team.

“He was a much loved and respected member of staff within the Education Authority, and we wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Paul’s family, friends and colleagues at this time.”

A spokesperson for the PSNI confirmed that a sudden death had taken place  in Omagh this morning. They added that the Health and Safety Executive of Northern Ireland (HSENI) had been informed.

A HSENI spokesperson said: “HSENI is aware of an incident in Omagh area and inspectors are attending the scene to make enquiries.”
