Derry and Strabane record most new cases

THE Derry City and Strabane District Council area showed the biggest upward trajectory of new coronavirus cases today (Tuesday), with 72 new positive tests, followed by Belfast with 71.

After that, the next highest was Newry, Mourne and Down with 43 additional cases.

Prof Ian Young, in a briefing to the media, said if the current trend persists, the North could have 1,000 new cases a day in a month’s time.

Altogether, a further 320 cases were confirmed today, the highest daily total since the present tests system was initiated.

Whilst no more deaths have been reported, the North-wide total remains at 578.

Altogether some 11,269 cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the six counties since the crisis began. However as much as 15 per-cent of these have been diagnosed in the past week.
