Investing time in personal growth is often a back-burner task we all hope to get round to when we have the time.
Then when we finally do get some time procrastination rears it’s ugly head and we find ourselves watching cat videos on YouTube.
If you are serious about personal growth you need to invest time in yourself. A car owner might only take their car for an MOT once a year but if they want to make sure the car passes first time they will have a regular service, change the oil and keep all the essentials well looked after during the year.
The same applies to your personal growth, it isn’t only important when you want instant success, you need to put the work in all year round.
Why not try these 3 quick tips:
1. Value Your Time
As much as we might feel like we’re busy all of the time, we could fit a lot more in if only we valued the time we have. Think about your commute to work, how much of this is spent doing something productive? What do you think about when making dinner, taking a shower or having a lunch break at work?
You can transform a lot of wasted time into personal growth time. TED talks are often the perfect fit, you can filter by the amount of time you have, ten minutes spent making dinner and thinking about how hungry you are can be ten minutes listening to targeted audio’s for your area of personal growth. Start valuing your time.
2. We All Share The Same Ambitions
Whether you want to pass your exams, get a promotion in work or improve your relationships, we all share one common ambition, we all want to be better. Make your ambitions real by sharing them with a friend, encourage them to share theirs and hatch a plan to be each other’s ‘growth partner.’
Telling someone else what your hopes and dreams are can make them feel more real. There will also be an added pressure to succeed because someone else is in on it. A ‘growth partner’ can have a huge impact, offering insight, experience and a listening ear when you need that extra motivational boost. Watching this person grow will also encourage you to keep going and vice versa.
3. Be Firm With Yourself
If you’ve said that personal growth for you will involve better communication with your partner, don’t just pay this lip-service when you feel like it, if you’ve committed to yourself that you will exercise once per day, don’t let the weather dictate your actions. In short, there should be no excuses when it comes to personal growth, you know what you need to do and you will be the author of your own future.
Valuing your time and having a ‘growth partner’ will really help with being firm. If you set time aside every day this will soon become a habit and your ‘growth partner’ can be there to steer you back on track when you are struggling with motivation.
Personal growth plays a huge factor in both our work and home life, we often think long about what we want to change but don’t take steps to make the change. Begin implementing these three quick steps today and you will soon see progress.
