The most dreaded interview question and how to answer it

As a team we’ve all discussed the interviews we’ve had over the years and have come up with our most dreaded interview question and for this we were unanimous.

Tell us about your biggest weakness

When asked this question it’s difficult to know how you should answer it.  If you prepare your answer before your interview, and rehearse your response with a partner or friend, the question will seem less intimidating the next time an interviewer asks it.

1. Choose a weakness that will not prevent you from succeeding in the role
2. Be honest and choose a real weakness
3. Provide an example of how you’ve worked to improve upon your weakness or learn a new skill to combat the issue
4. Demonstrate self-awareness and an ability to look to others to provide you with the resources necessary for growth
5. Don’t be arrogant and don’t underestimate yourself

Regardless of whether you’re bad with numbers or you tend not to speak up in group settings, there’s a strength behind every weakness. The strength is in how you work to overcome it.

Leaning on your teammates who excel in those areas is a great way to show that you’ll work well on the team and that you know how to use your resources to solve problems.
