A GOFUNDME page has been established to help raise funds to bring four lorry loads of aid from Tyrone to the people of war-torn Ukraine.
It is hoped that at least four articulated lorries will make the trip from Altamuskin to Poland in the coming days.
During the past week, hundreds of people from across Tyrone and beyond have made donations of food, nappies and toiletries, clothes and blankets at the Hilltop Flying Club.
The flying club premises outside Sixmilecross has been inundated with donations: In just seven days, a large agricultural shed has been filled with a host of goods now Ukraine-bound.
But with each lorry costing almost £5,000 in fuel in addition to other expenses, the appeal to raise funds has been launched.
Yesterday (Wednesday) three new collection points were opened. They are at the Beragh GAA Community Hub, the grounds of St Patrick’s GAA club in Tattyreagh and at the Flaxmill Centre in Drumduff.
A special bank account has also been opened through Errigal Ciaran parish for those wishing to make a financial donation. The details for this are: Sort Code ‘950679’ ;account number ‘00256137’; and the account is named ‘Errigal Ciaran Parish Ukraine Donations’.
Earlier this week, one lorry which had been hoping to make its way to e犀利士
astern Europe had to return to base in Altamuskin after travelling to Belfast where those co-ordinating the people had temporarily run out of space.
Brothers, Michael and Donal Donnelly, from the Hilltop Flying Club, who are helping to co-ordinate the essential relief effort, have expressed their thanks to all those who have so far made donations.
Among the donations have been boxes of items from local schools, churches, community organisations and businesses and the material gathered is being prepared and sorted at the flying club before being dispatched.
