ERANO, a refugee support group based in Omagh, will host an International Women’s Day event at the Silverbirch Hotel tonight.
The free event, which runs from 7-10pm, promises an evening of entertainment and celebration of women from diverse backgrounds, including those who have sought asylum in the community.
Founded in 2021, ERANO aims to provide assistance and support to refugees and asylum seekers who have resettled in the Fermanagh and Omagh area. This event serves as a platform to recognize and honour the strength, resilience, and contributions of women, both locally and globally.
It will feature an array of speakers, including women who have fled war and destitution in their home countries to find refuge in Northern Ireland. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear first hand accounts of the challenges these women have faced on their journeys and the courage they have demonstrated in overcoming adversity.
Among the speakers scheduled to appear are Tyrone author Emma Heatherington, known for her internationally bestselling novels, and Louise Cullen, Agriculture and Environment correspondent with BBC Northern Ireland.
In addition to the speakers, the evening will include jazz music performances and spot prizes, adding to the festive atmosphere. Attendees will also have the chance to connect with local women who have made the Fermanagh and Omagh area their home, fostering a sense of community and solidarity.
Mary Lafferty, project manager at ERANO, emphasised the importance of celebrating women’s strength and diversity.
She said, “Many women have come to the Fermanagh and Omagh area in recent years as a result of war and upheaval in their home countries, seeking help and support and making this area their home.
“We are delighted to have made so many new friends in the area and wanted to create this evening in the Silverbirch Hotel as a celebration of the strength and power of women and the collective and brilliant outcomes we can create when we all come together as one regardless of where we are from.”
There are limited spaces available for this free event, so attendees are encouraged to book early by contacting Mary at 07783706598, or Olha on 07392974801 to book your place.
