Major plan unveiled for the future development of Cookstown

PEOPLE in Cookstown are being given the chance to have their say on the town’s development.

Mid Ulster District Council is inviting residents, businesses and visitors to assist in shaping the vision for Cookstown 2025-2040, through the development of a Place Shaping Plan.

The aim of the Place Shaping Plan is to improve the social, economic and environmental well-being of Cookstown.

This project is co funded by Mid Ulster District Council and the Department for Communities.

The plan will outline a vision for the town, and set out a tangible, achievable roadmap of actions up to 2040.

Chair of the Council, Councillor Eugene McConnell, welcomed the development of the Plan, said: “The Cookstown Place Shaping Plan provides the opportunity for those who live, work, invest and visit Cookstown to be involved in developing a plan which will strive to ensure Cookstown remains vibrant over the next fifteen years.

“Partnership working with key stakeholders will be vital in identifying key initiatives for the final Plan. I encourage all those with an interest in Cookstown to become involved and attend future workshops.”

Communities Minister, Gordon Lyons, said he was pleased his department has been able to provide funding for a new Place Shaping Plan for Cookstown.

“Place Shaping is a collaborative approach to planning and designing public spaces, in order to create places where people want to live, work, play and invest.

“This plan will provide a vision for Cookstown’s future, providing a clear roadmap to realise the ambition for the town. DFC look forward to working collaboratively with Mid Ulster District Council and key stakeholders towards the development of the final plan.”
