Older people enjoy arts and crafts in Lisnafin

Older people in the Lisnafin area were recently able to enjoy arts and crafts classes thanks to £7,468 in funding from the Arts Council’s Arts and Older People Programme which was awarded to the Lisnafin/Ardnalee/Trust Cross Community Development Association.

Leona Devine facilitated ceramic Christmas Village art classes in Lisnafin Community Centre and also lead the group’s community arts outreach programme, helping residents in Melmount Manor and Woodmount Care Homes to create their own ceramic Christmas decorations.

Christine Bonnar facilitated Paverpol Christmas Wreath art classes in Lisnafin and also helped residents in Melmount Manor and Woodmount Care Homes to create their own Christmas wall hanging decorations.

The Arts and Older People Programme aims to strengthen the voice of older people and promote positive mental health and well-being through the arts.

The strategic themes of the programme include combating isolation and loneliness, working to promote positive health and well-being and providing creative opportunities for older people living in disadvantaged and/or marginalised rural and urban areas across the North.
