FROM running through glorious sunshine, to braving dull skies, jumping in puddles and leaping through rain, Jenny Steele and her dog took part in an intrepid outdoor mission to raise money for Grovehill Animal Trust last month – and they paw-formed the task purr-fectly!
Not only did the Omagh woman, who is a final year student at Queen’s University Belfast, and Duke, her trusty four-legged companion, run/walk a total of 200km during July, but they also helped to raise £695 for the Sixmilecross-based animal shelter along the way.
What made the challenge even more special was that Duke, himself, was a former resident of Grovehill – and it is likely that this rescue saved his life. Speaking to the Tyrone Herald, Janice Porter, chairperson of Grovehill, was full of purr-aise for the dogmatic duo.
“Every penny raised will go directly towards helping the many cats and dogs who are currently in the care of the Trust,” Janice said.
“A most sincere thank you on behalf of Grovehill to Jenny and to everyone who kindly donated – and
of course special thanks goes to Duke. He didn’t have a great start in life; and when he arrived at Grovehill, he was very underweight; his coat was in an appalling condition; and he was quite afraid of human contact.
“But all of that changed when he found his forever home with Jenny.
“A big well done again to both of them!”
