Stewartstown artist launches abstract solo exhibition

ABSTRACT artworks that explore how modern culture has impacted the surfaces of our seas is the theme of a powerful solo exhibition taking place this month in The Burnavon Theatre, Cookstown.

Titled ‘Transient Surfaces’, the stunning works, which feature swathes of colour and texture, have been painted with passion and palette perfection by Grainne Laverty.

Grainne, who hails from Stewartswtown, said that she was excited to welcome folks, both local and beyond, to the thought-provoking and emotional exhibition, which launched yesterday (Wednesday) and will run until Monday, November 29.

“I can’t wait to showcase lots of new work,” Grainne said. “The exhibition is made up of 13 paintings, and it is an abstract exploration of the ever-changing surfaces of the sea; acknowledging the damage that we’ve done to it, and the pollution of man-made materials, including fishing lines and debris left behind.

“It runs in the Burnavon until the end of November, so there is plenty of time to check it out!”

The Burnavon Theatre is conveniently located 50 metres – a five minute walk – from the Cookstown Bus Depot.

A spokesperson from the Burnavon, said, “We are delighted to welcome artist, Grainne Laverty, and her beautiful exhibition, ‘Transient Surfaces’ to our exhibition space for the month of November.

“You can visit the Burnavon and view Grainne’s exhibition up until November 29, and it is free.”

Never far from a paint palette and with creative inspiration in abundance, Grainne is also proud to announce that she will be exhibiting a piece in this year’s Royal Ulster Academy of Arts exhibition, as well as two pieces, one of which is entitled ‘Sick Sea’, in a group show with Platform Arts in Belfast.
