Breabach and Sara McQuaid to play Armagh venue in April

FANS of trad and folk music are in for a real treat this week, with the performance of one of Scotland’s most skilled and imaginative acts.

The Market Place Theatre in Armagh will welcome Breabach who unite deep roots in Highland and Island tradition with the innovative musical ferment of their Glasgow base.

They have released six highly acclaimed albums, and collaborated with indigenous Australasian artists, Le Vent du Nord of Quebec, and most recently as artists-in-residence at 2019’s Celtic Colours festival with Cape Bretoners, Beolach.

Now in their 17th year together, Breabach continue to honour their musical origins while embracing new ideas.

It is this approach, combined with hard work and jaw-dropping talent, that has seen them develop into one of Scotland’s most exciting and successful folk groups. With six albums under their belt, a multitude of awards and performances across the globe, there is no sign of slowing down.

Breabach will perform on Thursday, April 7. Tickets can be booked online at www.visitarmagh.com/marketplacetheatre, or through the Box Office on [028] 3752 1821.

Meanwhile, the Armagh venue is preparing to welcome Sarah McQuaid the singer, songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist. She has recorded six solo albums; ‘When Two Lovers Meet’, ‘I Won’t Go Home ’Til Morning’, ‘The Plum Tree And The Rose’, ‘Walking into White’, ‘If We Dig Any Deeper It Could Get Dangerous’ and ‘The St Buryan Sessions’.

Her award-winning musicianship, distinctive chocolatey vocals and mastery of the songwriting craft have led reviewers to describe Sarah as a “triple threat”.

Add to that a warm, charismatic stage presence, six critically acclaimed solo albums and a battery of instruments including acoustic and electric guitars, drum and piano, and you’ve got a one-woman powerhouse who defies categorisation because there simply isn’t anyone else out there quite like her.

A typically glowing review from PopMatters read, “Captivating, unorthodox songwriting … layered satin vocals … enthralling, harrowing arrangements … a gateway into a true innovator’s soul”.
