Brendan to celebrate 60 years of song

COUNTRY music legend, Brendan Quinn, will celebrate 60 years in the music business next month with a concert at the Strule Arts Centre.

In the early 1970s, the music maestro reached ‘Number One’ in the Irish charts with his song, ‘Four In The Morning’, and enjoyed several more top ten hits, with ‘Bandy The Rodeo Clown’, ‘Daddy’s Little Girl’, ‘I Can Almost See My Hometown From Here’ and ‘Angeline’, to name a few.

Now, Brendan is getting ready to embark upon a nationwide concert tour in 2024 to celebrate 60 years of song, with a full backing band of superb musicians including two giants of the Irish traditional music scene, Steve Cooney and Dermot Byrne. His son, James, will also take to the stage as a guest artist on the night.

Brendan will stop off in Omagh – a town he has played a huge number of shows in throughout the years – on April 27 at the Strule Arts Centre.

A young Brendan Quinn started out in the music business in 1969, playing guitar with ‘The Malachi Doris Ceili Band’ at age 15.

The Donegal man worked with showbands throughout the 1970s including, The Breakaways, The Signs, and The Mighty Avons, before forming his own group in 1976, called Brendan and The Bluebirds.

This is where Brendan had is biggest successes, enjoying five Number Ones in the Irish Country charts.

Brendan continued touring across the whole world, where he spent time in Canada and played shows across Europe.

In 1995, Brendan semi-retired from touring, and ‘The Bluebirds’ lost their wings after 20 years.

However, the musician has continued to tour semi-actively in theatres across Ireland, delighting audiences with his signature hits.
