A DUNGANNON singer who has bowed out of a country music TV talent show, says she is looking forward to getting back on stage in local venues as the remaining Covid restrictions are lifted.
Tracy Brennan said her appearance on the the TG4 show Glór Tíre, was a big step outside of her comfort zone, and revealed she had to battle through coronavirus just weeks before the show began.
Speaking to the Dungannon Herald, Tracy said performing for the television cameras, was an unusual experience, but she was glad she took on the challenge after answering the call from fellow singer Johnny Brady.
“For me, the whole thing was really outside of what I normally do, completely outside of my comfort zone,” she said.
“I’ve been singing in bands for about 30 years, mainly in rock bands and covering some pop songs, so country music isn’t really my thing. But it was good to give it a go, especially after I got Covid just a few weeks before the show started and I wasn’t sure I was even going to be able to take part.
“I would be quite a laid back person and probably not that suited to the competitive nature of talent shows.”
A major motivating factor for Tracy to take part, was the fact that the pandemic had halted live shows for two years. “Yes, I think I really wanted to get out there again and start singing on stage. And it’s great to see things opening up again and my diary is fairly busy for the rest of 2022 and that’s what I am looking forward to most is playing shows regularly again with my band Midnight Station.”
Tracy added, “It’s been such a tough time for everyone involved with music and it will be great to see all the music fans again after such a terrible two years. I’ve spent 30 years in music, after starting out with Plunkett McComb when I was 16, and every time that I step on the stage, I learn something new, and that’s what I love about performing in front of a live audience.”
