See the Walled City as you’ve never seen it before as part of stunning multi-media festival Illuminate, which will shine a light on the story of Derry over the next two weekends.
Featuring live installations, performance and music, Illuminate will take over Derry’s City Centre from 17th -20th and 24th – 27th February. Funded by Tourism Northern Ireland as part of its Embrace A Giant Spirit campaign, Iluminate is a festival first for the city, and will transform some of its most iconic sites as part of a captivating visual journey through time.
The festival will capture some of the most dramatic moments in Derry’s history through digital animation, projection and live performance, complemented by a series of intimate live music gigs featuring some of the very best musicians.
Learn more about the city’s evolution from ancient monastic settlement to today’s vibrant and exciting visitor destination, through a series of stunning installations created by Visual Spectrum Studios, using the latest digital technology, projection, sound and animation to weave a compelling tale of tragedy and triumph.
View the beautiful Guildhall, the City’s historic walls, St Columb’s Cathedral, Castle Gate and St Columb’s Hall as you’ve never seen them before, as they provide the canvas for this illuminating tale of tragedy and treachery, hope and renewal.
As Derry approaches the tenth anniversary of its UK City of Culture year, it’s also a time to celebrate the wealth of talent that makes the city a proud cultural hub with a programme of intimate live performances led by Music Capital.
Among the exciting music acts confirmed to perform as part of the festival are Kila, Neil Cowley, the Henry Girls and Aoife Scott. They will be joined some of the finest local performers including Glenn Rossborough, Roe and John Deery and the The Heads, Comrade Hat, Clodagh May Music, Kate O’Callaghan, Ciaran Lavery, Maria Kelly and Basork for what promises to be a fabulous musical showcase.
The artists will perform in atmospheric settings such as the Guildhall, St Augustine’s Church, Echo Echo studio and the Contemporary Centre of Arts as part of a live illumination trail experience taking place over eight evenings.
