FANS of classical music are in for a real treat over the coming weeks, when the Market Place Theatre in Armagh plays host to some superb classical music performances, with the arrival of both local and international musicians.
On Saturday, March 12, The Sitkovetsky Trio, an exceptional piano trio, will take to the stage. The musicians include violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky, pianist Wu Qian and German-Korean cellist Isang Enders. Their thoughtful and committed approach has brought the ensemble critical acclaim and invitations to top concert halls around the world, such as the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Palais des Beaux Arts, Musée du Louvre, l’Auditori Barcelona, Wigmore Hall, and Lincoln Center.
With countless solo prizes to their names, the music-making of the Sitkovetsky Trio is little short of miraculous. In their hands the piano trio becomes a miniature orchestra, making huge worlds of colour and texture from their personal, intimate musical format. Tickets are priced £15 and £12.50 [concession], and the ticket price for this teatime concert will include a glass of wine.
Then on Saturday, March 26, it’s the turn of two local musicians, Cahal Masterson and Stephen Murphy, who will perform ‘The Romantic Trumpet’, an exciting recital featuring music from Eastern Europe, written for trumpet and piano by some of the best known composers of the 20th century.
Trumpeter, Stephen Murphy and pianist Cahal Masterson, are both originally from Poyntzpass. Their musical career has taken them both nationally and internationally for studies and work. This collaboration has been an ambition of theirs for many years.
The main work featured in this recital will be the Arutunian Trumpet concerto. Other works will include a selection of Rachmaninov Preludes for piano, performed by Cahal Masterson. Other repertoire featured in this programme will include works for trumpet and piano by Tchaikovsky, Glazunov, Bohme and Goedicke.
Tickets for this concert are priced £12 and £10 [concession].
