Open mic nights return to Daly’s pub

WHAT do you get when a global pandemic closes the curtains on comedy clubs for nearly two full years?…

A gang of green-gilled new-starts, and out-of-practice veterans trying to make a room full of pasty, recovering hermits laugh. What could go wrong, eh?

Everything and nothing is the answer! That’s the beauty of open-mic nights.

Last Tuesday night, Tyrone’s Mecca of comedy, Daly’s bar erupted in laughter once again when their new ‘Green Room Comedy Open Mic Night’ kicked off with its inaugural show.

Local comedy fans filled the seats and the funny people took to the stage.

The mastermind behind ‘The Green Room’? Resident bar woman and comedian, Claire Corrigan who is as adept behind the mic as she is behind the counter.

“With some of the biggest name comedians having performed in our humble wee town in this award-winning comedy club, it was a no-brainer to set up an open mic night for new and exciting comedians to emerge,” Claire described.

But if you decide to spend an evening at ‘The Green Room’, don’t expect to see only young, dry-mouthed, deer-in-the-headlight types trying to find their feet.

Be cautious if you drop your guard, because you’ll likely encounter a few wily foxes ready to pounce.

“It’s set up not only to introduce new acts to the comedy circuit,” Claire said.

“But to also allow established acts to try out new material on a live audience.

“Anyone who is willing and ready to get up on the stage are more than welcome to come along and try it out.”

The Green Room will be taking place every second Tuesday of the month in Daly’s from 7.30pm to about 10pm.

Seven – potentially sinful – comedians will take to the stage to bring laughter back to Omagh, and all for £5!

Sure, you’d be a fool to miss out. It is a pay-at-the-door event, so people are advised to get in early to avoid disappointment.
