The Mercenaries celebrate New Year’s Night in searing style at Bogan’s

An elite group of musical assassins, The Mercenaries, will be celebrating the New Year in searing style when they unleash a blitz of bangers in Bogan’s this New Year’s night (not New Year’s Eve, but the night of New Year’s Day!).

Yes – Omagh’s musical answer to the Mosaad are returning to the battleground where they first joined forces on that fabled New Year’s Eve two years ago.

Legend states that, on NYE 2019 in Bogan’s Bar, these four holy warriors began their crusade for the gods of rock. The result?…

They toppled the tyranny of mundane music, and established new system of power; one of which was founded on the perennial principles of rock and roll.

And in the summer of 2021, they erected one of Omagh most powerful institutions: Mercenary Mondays at Bogan’s.

Those who turn out to sing and celebrate with them on the two year anniversary of that glorious Christmas coup, should expect the usual high-octane electric setlist of modern and classic covers, spanning rock; pop; grunge; punk; prog; and metal.

But you’d better be in early, because the popular support the Mercenaries enjoyed during their rise exploded over the summer months when they amassed a loyal – and sometimes fanatical – following during their weekly residency in Bogan’s Courtyard.

Speaking with Danny, he told us how the boys are raring to rock out to a full house on January 1.

“It’s the same Mercenaries that had some of the best nights of music Bogan’s ever seen during the summer: Niall Moore on vocals; Niall McEnhill on guitar; Oscar Bradley on drums; and myself on bass,” he detailed. “Bogan’s is, without a doubt, the best venue for live music in Omagh.

“Andy and his staff have always been great supporters of local bands, and we love playing there.

“Plus, the crowds are always so appreciative and know their music!”

“The Mercs is the dream band to play in,” he added. “We get to play all the stuff we grew up with, and you can just see the nostalgia on people’s faces when you play the first bars of Nirvana; Rage Against The Machine; Queens of the Stone Age; Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the like.

“On top of that, the band are amazing individual musicians in their own right, and it’s a joy to play with them.”

l Doors open at 9pm on Saturday, January 1, with The Mercenaries’ gig at 10pm.
