Warm welcome for women at The Coup

A NEW creative women’s hub in Dunamanagh aims to give women a little bit of their sparkle back as they unlock from lockdown.

The Coup is the brainchild of friends Susan McCaul and Christine Fulton, who were inspired by the global Men’s Shed organisation and wanted to do something similar for women. They decide to turn a former shop in the village into a creative women’s hub. All the work was done by the inspiring duo and The Coup is now ready for all women in the area to call in and have a cuppa – it’s a beautiful space where ladies can connect and relax.

The Coup is equipped with a craft and sewing space, library and reading area, contemporary upcycled kitchen, a DIY multi-use studio, plus an outdoor patio-style garden. The Coup offers support and boundless opportunities for women to use the facilities and gain new ideas or insights into their own capabilities, or simply find a haven of calm to escape to.

All manner of crafts from crochet and knitting to paper craft and painting, sewing and making facilities, ways of upcycling furniture plus advice and support on a range of home projects will be on offer in The Coup. It is also hoped that classes in cookery, DIY, fitness, well-being etc can be offered as requested.

The team behind new venture explained, “Within the spaciousness of The Coup we are breaking new ground and sowing seeds of self-reliance, opportunity and accomplishment for all. By offering practical support individually and within, and an ongoing programme of events and mini-projects The Coup hopes to encourage women to bring out their own talents and interests”.

• The Coup will be hosting an open day this Saturday (June 12) from 10-4pm. This is for women over the age of 16, and there will be refreshments, stalls and raffles available.
