A NEW six-bed residential facility catering exclusively for people with disabilities has been proposed for Omagh.
Planning permission is currently being sought for the new building close to the existing Granard residential care home on the Hospital Road in the town.
It is expected that around three jobs will be created if and when the new care home is built.
In addition to the home, there are also plans to include a laundry room, meeting room, store facility, and a new carpark, capable of accommodating 11 vehicles.
The applicant is East Eden Limited, which provides a number of care homes locally, and is based on the Erganagh Road, just outside in Omagh.
It specialises in residential care for the elderly and disabled.
The company, in its design statement, has expressed the hope that the new facility will enable disabled people to live as independently as possible.
According to the company, the location of the new facility as a ‘standalone’ one is to enable the disabled residents to view themselves as a separate from the elderly care facility of Granard.
The application was submitted in mid-September, and it will now be decided upon by the Planning Committee of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.
