A KEBAB shop in Omagh named as the best in the North last year is aiming for even more honours in 2021.
After tasting sweet title-winning success 12 months ago, Gavin Chism, owner of Grab A Kebab, is delighted that, once again, his takeaway has been shortlisted in the British Kebab Awards.
The Dromore Road premises is one of 20 establishments vying for the title of Best Kebab House in Northern Ireland. Also among those shortlisted is King Kebab, which recently opened in Campsie Road, Omagh.
Having won the 2020 award, Mr Chism is quietly confident of making it two-in-a-row, but needs the support of local people to make it happen. He said, “21’s my lucky number, so I’m hoping it rubs off!”
In 2020, Mr Chism and his wife, Mandy, travelled over to London for the prestigious ceremony to pick up the award. This year, the proud takeaway owner has vowed to take all his staff over to the glitzy event, which has been put back to October due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “The staff deserve a really good night out.
“It would be a nice way to reward them for all their hard work over the last 12 months,” he said.
Business and Industry Minister Nadhim Zahawi, who is currently serving as the Minister for the Covid Vaccine Deployment, said, “I have been a big supporter of the British Kebab Awards since 2013 and look forward to attending the 2021 event and being on the judging panel.”
