CHRISTMAS decorations have been vandalised and damaged in Castlederg and Erganagh overnight.
These included a gingerbread man in Castlederg which was knocked over and the Christmas trees in both towns had to be repaired after some of their lights were pulled of.
Sinn Féin Councillor Ruairí McHugh has condemned the vandalism and said that these actions are both ‘costly’ and a ‘danger’.
Mr McHugh said, “Despite numerous appeals, Council’s Electrical and Maintenance teams are unfortunately still dealing with vandalism to the Christmas decorations across the locality.
“Following vandalism, repairs have had to be carried out to the trees in Castlederg and Erganagh where sections of the lights were pulled off.
“The Gingerbread Man in Castlederg has also been knocked over and the boards painted by local school children have been vandalised overnight.
“As well as the obvious dangers, this is costly and time consuming and represents criminal damage.
“The decorations are there for everyone to enjoy so Council would appreciate if people respect them and report any incidents of vandalism you experience.”
