Civic Reception for Carrickmore fundraiser

ONE of the best-known fundraisers in Mid Tyrone is to be recognised with a civic reception from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

Seamus Russell, from Carrickmore, has raised some £85,000 through getting his head shaved on numerous occasions.

Now, the popular local man is to be honoured with the reception later this month to recognise his charitable efforts and kindness over so many years. Local councillor, Catherine Kelly, said there was nobody she felt was more deserving of this honour than Seamus.

“It’s appropriate that we recognise his efforts and everything he has done for us in raising money over the years,” she said.

“Seamus has hung up his boots in terms of fundraising and it is great because this is the perfect opportunity to honour him.

“What we hope to do is acknowledge the fundraising which he has carried out for Termonmaguirc Cancer Patients Comfort Fund and other charities, who will be represented at the reception.

“Not only has Seamus done much in terms of fundraising, but through his work he is also an important member of our community. The number of people who have benefited through his fundraising is enormous and many people have contacted me over recent weeks to express their support for this reception.”
