PERHAPS it was meant to be that the sun stayed out just long enough to beam down on all participants who took part in Saturday’s charity walk through the scenic landscapes of An Creagan to help keep the wonderful spirit of Kathleen Haughey (pictured) alive.
Indeed the very well-attended walk was just one of a series of events as part of the ‘Kathleen’s Causes’ initiative organised by her loving family to raise money for Termonmaguirc Cancer Patients’ Comfort Fund, North West Oxygen Centre and Marie Curie Cancer Centre.
Kathleen, who was from Carrickmore, sadly passed away on December 18, 2019, after battling cancer.
Further fundraising events in Kathleen’s memory included a ‘Golf Classic’ at the Omagh Golf Course, a hamper raffle, and an online competition in which the star prize, a Charolais heifer, was won by Sean McSorley from Sixmilecross.
Saturday’s 5K fundraising dander across Creggan proved extra special for the Haughey family, and indeed Colleen Haughey (Kathleen’s daughter) said that she could feel the positive presence of her mum.
“The walk was just beautiful,” Colleen smiled.
“It was brilliant. There was an amazing atmosphere throughout, and the rain stayed away just long enough for the last walker to make it back to the An Creagan centre, without getting wet.
“It was as if Kathleen was there with us, smiling down on all of us.”
