Covid-19: Further seven deaths confirmed in the North

A FURTHER seven deaths and 863 more positive cases related to Covid-19 in the North have been reported by the Department of Health today.

This brings the total number of coronavirus deaths reported by the department in the North to 598.

According to the DoH’s latest figures, a total of 21,898 individuals in the North have now tested positive for coronavirus, with 6,286 receiving positive results in the last seven days.

Between midnight on October 11 and 12, there were 163 new cases in Derry City and Strabane, 64 in Mid Ulster and 38 in Fermanagh and Omagh.

At 969.7 cases per 100,000 people, the infection rate over the last seven days in Derry City and Strabane remains the highest in the North, with Mid Ulster the third-highest at 401.3 cases per 100,000 people for the same period.

Fermanagh and Omagh’s figure for the last seven days currently stands at 226.0 per 100,000.

There are 150 confirmed Covid-19 inpatients being treated in hospitals across Northern Ireland. Of these, 23 are in Intensive Care Units.

Currently, there are active Covid-19 outbreaks in 53 care homes in the North.
