THE Department for Health will continue operating its main Covid testing centre in Omagh well into next year.
The testing facility opened during the summer of 2020 at a site leased from Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.
The council has agreed to grant a three-month extension to the Department for Health for the use of this site until April 7, 2022.
They have also agreed to one-month extensions subsequent to that date should the centre continue to be required.
The Department for Health sought the extension of the current lease period due to a rise in the demand for testing.
Figures show that, since the start of the pandemic, more than 100,000 people in the Fermanagh and Omagh local government district area have been tested for the virus.
