Omagh Academy

OMAGH ACADEMY is a high achieving grammar school.

We welcome pupils from a wide geographical area and from over 25 primary schools. At present we have 675 pupils – big enough to offer lots of subject choice, but not too big which allows the school to maintain a family atmosphere and excellent relationships. We are a non-denominational, controlled grammar school, which means that we have pupils from all religious and cultural backgrounds.

Our 21st Century curriculum encourages pupils to be curious, confident and resilient. We focus on academic success, with pupils being stretched and challenged.  We set targets based on their abilities and skills, and offer support to help each pupil achieve these. There is a large variety of both academic and vocational subjects offered at GCSE and A Level.

Pastoral care underpins everything. We endeavour to provide a warm and caring environment where pupils feel supported, cherished and secure. As part of the Academy family we celebrate the successes of our pupils and take pleasure in helping others to achieve their individual targets in every sphere of school life. We value the partnerships with our school counsellor, professional bodies and parents, as together we endeavour to provide the very best in educational outcomes for our young people.

Our exam results are excellent and pupils follow a range of career pathways including university degrees, school leaver apprenticeships with companies like Deloitte, PWC and Kainos, as well as accountancy technician courses. Our results are excellent, consistently above the Northern Ireland Average.  Indeed, our pupils are regularly placed in the top 5 in Northern Ireland in their CCEA examinations at GCSE and A Level. Recently we were listed in the Top 20 schools in Northern Ireland in The Sunday Times 2020 Parent Power Survey

There is an unrivalled extra-curricular programme, offering activities that suit the interests and skills of our pupils. We facilitate a range of sports, together with clubs and societies to cater for every taste. Our rugby and hockey clubs have a full fixture commitment and we enter a range of football competitions.

There is a thriving Music Department with an orchestra, a brass band, choirs and other musical groups. Every year we hold a Spring Concert open to the general public in the Strule Arts Centre. In drama we have put on plays and musicals including Our House and My Fair Lady.

In addition, we run successful Duke of Edinburgh Award and Young Enterprise Schemes. The skills that pupils develop through these activities, combined with the outstanding academic success, make Omagh Academy unique, and contribute to the high calibre of pupil that leaves our school.

Pupils are highly motivated, there are excellent relationships between staff and in Omagh Academy every child is valued.
