Family finds closure after Jordan’s remains are found

THE family of Jordan Gallagher has finally found solace after the young man’s remains were recovered from the River Foyle on Monday, following a three-week search effort.

The 26-year-old Strabane man had been missing since the start of March, with extensive searches taking place on a daily basis since he was last seen near his home in the Ballycolman.

Monday’s news was met with a wave of condolences as well as messages of support, as the local community grappled with the loss. Amidst the outpouring of grief, one message stood out – a poignant expression of gratitude and love from a member of Mr Gallagher’s family, shared through the ‘Help Bring Jordan Home’ Facebook page.

“Today, God answered our prayers after a long three weeks longing to have our boy Jordan back home,” the family member wrote, their words carrying the weight of weeks spent in agonising uncertainty.

“We finally have our gorgeous boy home now, where he is loved beyond words.”

They continued, “We can now give him the send-off he deserves. We know our angels were waiting for you, handsome.”

These heartfelt sentiments encapsulated the relief and bittersweet closure felt by Mr Gallagher’s loved ones, as they came to terms with the tragic outcome of the search.

The huge search was conducted by Community Search and Rescue Service Western Division, Foyle Search and Rescue, Search & Rescue Dog Association Ireland North, Three River Searches, as well as members of the public and Strabane Sigersons GAA.

Dozens of tributes have since been paid to the popular young man.

One of those came from the Strabane Sigersons, where Jordan played football and was an integral part of the historic Under-14 team that won the Grade 1 Championship for the first time in the club’s history in 2016. In 2015, he was also part of the Under-13 team that won the Grade 2 League, starting at midfield in the final against Eglish.

A spokesperson for the club said, “We as a club and Strabane as a town are devastated at the loss of another young person.

“We would encourage all of Jordan’s friends, family, and the entire community of young people in Strabane to talk to someone if they need it.

“This is a total tragedy that has left a family and community heartbroken.

“Jordan, from everyone at Strabane Sigersons, we would like to thank you for all you did when pulling on the blue jersey.

“You gave us many great memories that we will cherish forever, and your son will grow up to hear the stories of you when you graced the Gaelic fields of Strabane and around Tyrone.”
