Fun with sums at Sacred Heart

PUPILS from Sacred Heart College in Omagh had fun with their sums as the school played host to the FunMaths Roadshow.

Every year eight pupil participated in a wide range of different maths-based puzzles and games to sharpen their skills while having fun.

During the FunMaths Roadshow, pupils move around the room tackling any puzzle in any order they choose. This is said to allow them to develop problem-solving skills without even trying.

Each pupil has a customised response sheet to be initialed by a helper when each activity is successfully completed. This enables the pupil to move on to their next puzzle and continue on to any puzzle they choose.

Some puzzles were fraction-based, while others helped with the development of basic maths and mental arithmetic.

In a typical session of 60 to 75 minutes, either with pupils working on their own or in pairs, most students completed well over a dozen activities.
