PLANNING permission has been granted for 11 new houses in Strabane which are set to be valued at £500,000 each.
The houses are to be built on a large plot beside Sacred Heart Church on the Derry Road, opposite Strabane Primary School.
A planning application for the 11 detached properties and adjacent garages was lodged last year with Derry City and Strabane District Council.
The council’s planning department has now given the green light for the development, which will be constructed by McGettigan Homes Ltd.
The company’s planning application for the Strabane site was supported by West Tyrone SDLP MLA Daniel McCrossan.
In a letter of support sent to the council in July, Mr McCrossan said the proposed houses would be expected to be ‘marketed at approximately £500,000’.
The local politician said the development would meet a ‘distinct market demand for high-quality private family housing’.
“I would kindly urge the Planning Department to approve this important and well-considered development without delay,” Mr McCrossan wrote.
“It represents a significant opportunity to deliver high quality housing in Strabane, enhancing the character of the Derry Road while meeting a clearly defined housing market need.”
