Harte and McAreavey families ‘still waiting on justice’ for Michaela 11 years on

JOHN McAreavey has once again called on the Mauritian Government to deliver justice for their family on the 11th anniversary of his wife Michaela’s murder.

The daughter of former Tyrone manager, Mickey Harte, died on January 10, 2011. Since then the family have sought to have those who killed her convicted.

The 27 year-old Ballygawley schoolteacher was found dead in her hotel room while honeymooning with husband, John, on the island off the African coast. The brutal natuyre of the killing sent shocksaves across the world. A year later two men accused of the murder were found not guilty.

On social media this week, Mr McAreavey said that 11 years on they were still ‘waiting on justice.’

His post echoed comments by Mickey Harte who last year blasted the Mauritian authorites for their continuing failure to bring anyone to justice over the murder of Michaela.

“The authorities in Mauritius seem to think out of sight out of mind, and if they just try and let on that it hasn’t happened it will go away.

“But I know John (McAreavey) and our family will make sure that it doesn’t go away. We will keep bringing it into the public domain.”
