Heartfelt thanks to people of Omagh from charity shop

A LOCAL charity shop that has been inundated with donations has thanked the people of Omagh for their kind and generous donations.

Since reopening after the Covid lcokdown, Oxfam Ireland on Market Street, Omagh has recruited twelve new volunteers and has been receiving a month worth of donations within days.

The charity shop has received thousands of kind donations, and were forced to stop accepting donations as supply was so high.

Shop manager Ian McMahon was left ‘completely overwhelmed’ by people’s generosity and is delighted to have a new team of volunteers onboard.

Mr McMahon said, “We had a group of volunteers working in the shop but only three could come back due to underlying health issues and cocooning.

“When we reopened the shop, I was here on my own for a week.

“At the start, we were getting a months worth of donations every day and in the end up, we had to ask people to stop sending us in stock.

“We simply could not deal with the volume of stock.

“We have closed the doors to the public on a Monday now for the time being, and the staff come in and work away processing everything down the back.

“We actually have too many volunteers at the minute so we have had to stagger them,” said Mr McMahon.

Mr McMahon is extremely grateful for the kind donations and the work the volunteers have been doing.

He continued, “I would just like to thank the public for their generosity and also the volunteers who gave up their time to help us.

“We are overwhelmed by the goodness of the people of Omagh – words cannot describe the kindness we have seen.

“Our volunteer teams are training up the new volunteers, and we know in time, these volunteers will be going back to their normal jobs but we are very grateful for their help.

“We are looking forward to having our  orginal group of volunteers back in the store – hopefully soon if things return to some degree of normality.

“It is not all about volunteering, but it is about getting out of the house, having a bit of craic and doing something that makes a difference,” said Mr McMahon.
