A KIND-hearted four-year-old has helped put Knockmoyle’s ‘Molly the Scarecrow’ back in its rightful place after vandals cruelly damaged the community landmark.
Molly the scarecrow had become a popular feature at a road junction close to Gortnagarn and Knockmoyle, located at the place known as ‘the Kissing Bush’.
Last weekend, the scarecrow was destroyed by vandals and had to be removed from the area.
However, four-year-old Bella Maybin, daughter of Ryan and Clara Maybin, pledged to help make a new Molly and on Saturday, she joined members of community group Friends of the Glens and helped restore the scarecrow.
Bella’s mother Clara said it was a lovely day and Bella is delighted that the scarecrow has been restored and is back at the popular spot.
Speaking to the Ulster Herald, Clara said, “We went to the pound shop and got loads of things to make for the scarecrow.
“Bella made a necklace with felt hearts, diamantés and wee crafts.
“She was so excited to help out because she really couldn’t understand why someone would vandalise the scarecrow in the first place.
“She was all business on Saturday and she stuffed the wellies with straw and put on the necklace.
“Members of the Friends of the Glens gave her a bunch of flowers and she really was delighted.
“We use that road almost every day, and every time she goes past the scarecrow now, she is smiling at it.
“Everyone is delighted that the scarecrow is back up in its place, and Bella was so happy to be involved, concluded Clara.
