Major improvements carried out to busy Omagh laneway

A MAJOR £300,000 regeneration project aimed at transforming Foundry Lane in Omagh has now been completed.

Funded by the Department for Communities and supported by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, the Environmental Improvement Scheme is part of the wider Omagh Place Shaping Plan.

The initiative focuses on improving town centre connectivity and creating more liveable and welcoming public spaces.

Improvements included new paving, upgraded lighting, improved surface water drainage and enhanced signage.

Prior to the works, Foundry Lane was plagued by uneven surfaces and poor accessibility. In response, the council collaborated with disability advocacy groups to ensure level access to all shopfronts along the laneway.

The scheme also included new paving, enhanced lighting, improved surface water drainage and clearer signage.

Local heritage was celebrated through the installation of historical photographs of Omagh, adding character and charm to the refreshed route.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council chair, Cllr John McClaughry, praised the project, describing Foundry Lane as a vital pedestrian corridor for residents and visitors alike.

“As a key pedestrian route connecting car parks to the town centre, Foundry Lane is a busy and important area. These improvements have made it safer, more welcoming, and accessible for all,” he said.

“Enhancing connections to the town centre is vital for keeping our towns vibrant and appealing.”

The scheme also included shopfront and archway improvements, part-funded by the Department for Communities and supported by contributions from property owners. FP McCann Ltd carried out the main environmental works, while Devity Contract Services handled enhancements to shopfronts and archways.
