A GROUP of residents who had campaigned for a new set of traffic lights near Omagh Leisure Complex for 20 years have finally got their wish.
The new lights are located on Old Mountfield Road, between Sunnycrest Gardens and the council-owned leisure centre, and not far from both Omagh North Nursery School and the neighbouring Gibson Primary School.
During the three years that the Assembly was not sitting, local residents, with the support of West Tyrone MLA Daniel McCrossan, organised a petition calling for the new set of lights.
Mr McCrossan said local residents had been campaigning on the issue for the last two decades.
The SDLP representative said, “For the past number of years I have been fighting on behalf of the residents of Sunnycrest Gardens in Omagh, other residents of Old Mountfield Road and Gibson Primary School to have new traffic lights installed.
“The new crossing will improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists to Omagh Leisure Complex, schools and housing in the area.”
Mr McCrossan added that he was delighted the, Minister for Infrastructure Nichola Mallon, listened to the serious concerns of the residents and delivered what was promised after a few months in office.
