Omagh artist’s exhibit explores link between neuroscience and drawing

A WORLD where everything consists of lines that interconnect human experience and the search for healing is the the theme of an insightful brand new art exhibition at the Strule Arts Centre, Omagh.

Tantalisingly titled ‘Myth and Memory’, the exhibition is the brainchild of Omagh-born artist, Julie Murphy, and delves into the link between myths, stories, neuroscience and drawing in the exploration of the human memory through creative etchings, drawings and sculptures.

An art therapist, currently working in Wave Trauma Centre, Omagh, Julie has witnessed, first-hand, the power of art to transform lives and process memories.

Her respect for both ancient healing myths and ritual as well as new discoveries in neuroscience is reflected in the eclectic and thought-provoking collection.

Julie had previously enjoyed success in the ‘2019 1 FT SQ’ exhibition competition, organised by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, which earned her a residency at the prestigious Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Annaghmakerrig, Co Monaghan.

The talented artist’s first solo exhibition, ‘Myth and Memory‘, will run until January 29, 2022.

The Gallery is open from Monday to Saturdays, opening at 9.30am and closing at 5pm.
