TWO talented students of Omagh CBS were prize winners in a Ulster University art competition to mark Black History Month.
The competition saw students from across the North create an original artwork, poetry or script based upon the the theme of: ‘A celebration of inspirational black role models and their achievements’.
Despite the high calibre of entries across the country, the two year 10 students from Omagh were awarded accolades by the judging panel, which consisted of the Ulster University Head of Art and Design School, as well as academics and students from BAME network.
For his creativity, distinctive style and extremely powerful message which can be found in his entry titled, ‘Portrait of Nina Simone’, Aodhan Travers was awarded joint-first prize, along with two other entries from different schools, and received a £75 Amazon gift voucher for his tremendous efforts.
Meanwhile, Dillion Montgomery, was awarded the ‘Judge’s Prize’, and received a £20 Amazon gift voucher.
Again, the judges commented on the creativity and research that Dillon expressed towards his ‘Inspirational Black Role Model’ of Muhammad Ali.
A representative from the school said, “Congratulations goes to Aodhan Travers in 10F, who was awarded joint-first prize in the Ulster University Black History Month creative competition.
“Also, big congratulations to Dillion Montgomery, who was awarded the Judges Prize for creativity and research into his ‘Inspirational Black Role Model’ – Muhammad Ali.”
