AN Omagh man who has worked in the office of Sinn Fein MP, Orfhlaith Begley, for the past few years, has now been co-opted as the party’s new councillor for Mid-Tyrone.
Former CBS pupil, Patrick Withers, is expected to make his debut on the council when it meets for the first time in 2022 next Tuesday night.
A law and politics graduate from Queen’s University Belfast, the keen cyclist will replace Loughmacrory man, Sean Donnelly, who died last month after an illness.
Mr Withers has been assisting Orfhlaith Begley with strategic projects in the area, as well as supporting constituency work.
He says he is “honoured” to have been nominated by the party to now take on this new and additional role.
“Sean (Donnelly) is a huge loss to Sinn Fein in the local area. However, I am determined to build on his work and represent the people of Mid-Tyrone to the best of my ability,” he said.
