Omagh’s Lidl store to be demolished at the weekend

OMAGH’S Lidl store, as we know it, is due to be demolished at the weekend, along with the former site of Annie’s Bar.

Construction of the firm’s new ‘concept store’ is then scheduled to start within days.

Lidl will officially close its doors at 7pm next Saturday, February 26, making it highly probable that the demolition will take place on Sunday, ahead of construction work commencing on Monday, February 28.

Lidl have said they anticipate ‘minimal disruption’ during this construction phase of the £4 million James Street development.

The new store is expected to create 15 new permanent jobs, while some 200 employees are expected to be involved during the demolition and construction phases of this dramatically-enhanced store.

It is also touted that the new megastore is going to have a 125-space car park with two electric vehicle charging points.

A spokesperson for Lidl Northern Ireland told the Ulster Herald, “The new store will occupy a site of more than 4,000 sq. metres, including an expanded sales floor of 2,205 sq. metres – more than double the size of the previous store.

“This is an exciting time for Lidl Northern Ireland in Omagh as we deliver on our significant investment pledge for the area and the creation of 15 new jobs while supporting 200 during the demolition and construction phases of this dramatically enhanced store.”
