Online page to raise £5,000 for family of Phillip Moore

AN online fundraising page set up in memory of an Aughnacloy man killed in a tragic workplace accident earlier this month is hoping to raise £5,000 for his family.

Phillip Moore, who lived on Glassdrummond Road, died on the morning of Thursday, June 18 after the incident at Westland Horticulture in Granville Industrial Estate, Dungannon.

The talented rugby player, described as a “true club legend” by Clogher Valley RFC, is survived by a widow, Ruth, and young daughter, Lilly.

In the days after the tragedy, Michael Hayes, a man whose family have been involved in the horticulture industry in the UK for eight generations, set up a JustGiving page in memory of the father-of-one.

On the page, Mr Hayes states, “An Irishman recently lost his life while working to supply our industry. He leaves a wife and young child and although no amount of money will heal their loss, we are honoured to show our appreciation of his endeavours.”

So far, more than £1,000 has been raised for the family.

Mr Hayes, whose family run Hayes Garden Land in Symington, Ayrshire in Scotland, told the TyroneHerald that he had known the managing director at Westland, Edward Conroy, for many years, and had visited the plant in Dungannon twice.

He said, “I am always impressed by Westland’s strive for perfection on all matters. I know this accident will shake all the staff to the core.”

Mr Hayes added, “Having been to the plant and met the staff, I felt our industry might like to show its recognition and appreciation of the hard work Westland has undertaken during the Covid-19 crisis.”

A crowdfunding target of £5,000 to be donated to the family has been set by Mr Hayes. To find out more, go to the JustGiving page by clicking here.
