Police seek witnesses to sectarian attack in Campsie

Police are appealing for witnesses after criminal damage was reported to have been caused to a car in the Campsie Road area of Omagh on Saturday June 26th.

Police said, “It is understood that the criminal damage occurred sometime around 8pm on Saturday evening. This was a particularly distressing incident for the family involved as they returned to their parked car to find a number of eggs had been thrown at it.”

West Tyrone MLA, Declan McAleer, reported the incident himself, and has pointed to the fact that the egg attack on this southern registered car coincided with a Loyalist band parade which was occurring in the Campsie Road area at that time.

The police have stated that “the incident is being treated as a sectarian hate crime at this time.”

The police are appealing for anyone who might have information which may assist their investigation to contact them on 101, and to quote the ‘reference number 476 of the 28/06/21’.

Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can do so via the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
